Why most bullet lists underperform
The default Shopify bullet list is a feature dump. Stainless steel, vacuum insulated, 22 ounces, dishwasher safe, BPA free. None of those facts are wrong. None of them answer the buyer's actual question, which is 'why does this matter to me?' The conversion lift comes from reordering the same facts so the leading phrase is the benefit, not the spec.
The benefit-first pattern is: lead with the outcome, support with the feature, close with a proof point. 'Keeps drinks cold for 12 hours — vacuum insulated double wall — lab tested at 35°F drop over 12 hours'. Same facts, different packaging, real conversion lift.
Five bullets, ranked by buyer priority
Rank your features by what the buyer asks about, not by what is easiest to describe. For most consumer goods, the first bullet answers the 'will it do the job' question. The second answers 'will it last'. The third answers 'will it fit my life'. The fourth and fifth handle differentiators and proof.
When in doubt, draft five bullets in any order, then have a friend rank them by what they would want to read first. The friend test catches the order problems the writer is too close to see.
From bullets to a publishable section
Bullets and descriptions serve different reading modes. Buyers scan bullets; buyers read descriptions. The description paragraph is where you can do the bridge work between features and outcomes, where the brand voice lives, and where the proof point does its quiet work.
Keep the description under 200 words. Anything longer starts to be skipped, especially on mobile. The description is the second read, not the first. Use it to confirm what the bullets already promised and to answer the one question the bullets did not.
